Microsuction FAQs
Ear microsuction is the removal of ear wax by an audiologist using a high-powered microscope and a small, very thin sterile probe attached to a suction pipe. For more info visit this page.
On average it takes 10-30 minutes, depending how much wax has to be removed.
Most patients find the procedure relaxing and relieving. Sometimes it may be uncomfortable due to the position of the wax and shape of the ear canal, but this is rare. Due to the suction, the procedure is noisy but safe and gentle.
There are no fixed time periods for microsuction treatment, it is just as and when the wax builds up. Some clients require it twice a year, others less frequently. Because microsuction is such a gentle treatment, it can be carried out more regularly when required.
In most cases the wax can be removed without softening. However we do recommend three drops of olive oil or sodium bicarbonate into your ear the night before treatment.
You can refer yourself so you do not require a referral from a medical clinician.
